History material added by HectorofTroy appears suspicious, similar to material also added to Ridgeway, New York. Stepp-Wulf 02:18, 7 June 2006 (UTC).[reply]

The section that says the area was occupied by the Seneca for "centuries" before Europeans arrived is less than accurate. Belfast is on the western shore of the Genesee river, which was historically the western border of Seneca Territory. The area west of the Genesee was occupied by a handful of other nations of mostly Algonquian origin (The Erie, The Neutrals, The Wenro among them). The Seneca freely traveled the territory west of the Genesee seasonally , all the way to Lake Erie to hunt and fish, but returned to their own territory. The territory west of the Genesee, to Lake Erie was not permanently occupied by Seneca until after The Beaver Wars (roughly 1670-1700), when the Seneca along with other Haudenosaunee had conquered/eliminated/absorbed all of the nations that previously occupied that area. None of those nations remain in modern times. The Haudenosaunee as a confederacy did not come together until likely the 16th century. The earliest date proposed is about 1450. By the 18th century their cultural and technological influence could be seen as far west as the Ohio Valley & Kentucky and as far south as the Carolinas. None of this of course accounts for the numerous Paleo Indian cultures that predate all of the known Indian Nations. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.100.43.252 (talk) 07:54, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
